Lupinoid Types:

Canis
Canis are descended from domestic dogs. The typical Canis is about 1.5 metres tall and weighs approximately 50 kilograms. They are upright bipedal carnivores, with rear limbs digitigrade and hands very similar in size and appearance to those of a human, although with significant internal differences. On the average their reactions are slightly faster than those of the typical human, but individuals vary widely. Canis senses of smell and sight are superior to those of humans. Although gregarious, the group behaviour of Canis is characterised by a constant struggle for dominance within the group. The ability to exert personal authority over others derives from an individual's prestige and force of personality. Centralized authority is extremely limited at the upper levels of society, and action is based on broad coalitional concerns, with a constant splitting and rejoining of dissident factions. Canis have little respect for formal authority, and what respect they might have decreases as that authority becomes more remote. They tend to respect informal authority figures more, and they obey superiors who are better known to them. Canis have an intensive racial pride, and they are easily insulted. They are prone to enter into fights without regard to possible consequences.
Coylar
Coylar are descended from coyotes. They tend to live in small roaming tribes. The greater the number of Coylar, the greater their chaotic nature comes out. Coylar are very warlike enjoying battle, and love to be bullies of smaller races. They believe in personal freedom above everything else.
They are wild, aggressive, carefree, rebellious and barbaric. Their superior physical prowess combined with a sharp intellect and wild, daring tactics, makes them a respectable fighting force. They are also known for their tactical leadership in battle, engaging in ambush, flanking attacks and feints.
Iena
Ienas are descended from Hyenas. They are usually between 1.3 and 1.4 metres tall with the females being significantly shorter. They are generally savage, barbaric creatures that often practice cannibalism, and enjoy eating the flesh of other sentient species. Ienas are very strong and physically tough, although lacking in intelligence and force of personality. They are cunning and, when pressed, will fight to death. They are also very lazy and take slaves to perform their labour for them. Their whole bodies are covered in reddish-brown fur which becomes shorter as it surrounds their faces and clawed hands to reveal grey coloured skin. Their pelts vary from mono-coloured to spotted and their eyes are either yellow or black. The culture of the Iena discourages concepts as working together to achieve their own working civilization, not when there are other civilizations they can prey upon. Those graced with a diplomatic edge are capable of using their diplomacy instead of their blades, but immediately use it to gain boons from others with very little granted in return. Iena are also fearless and ruthless in combat.
Also, they are pack fighters, tracking their target with their incredible sense of smell. With an insatiable taste for blood, they become frenetic beasts when enemies are near. With surprising agility, they can leap and close in on targets from incredible distances.
Lupus
Lupus are descended from wolves. They stand about 1.6 metres tall. They live primarily in small towns and villages, though there are some large cities of them. These cities are not well planned out and are often mazes of buildings and alleys. Lupus are good hunters and better warriors. They have a natural feel for combat. Their culture reflects this, all are trained in weapons.
Sciacallo
Sciacallos are descended from jackals. They live in the deepest part of the wilderness. The average about 1.5 metres in height. They live peacefully and believe in living a simple life as hunters. They are at harmony with nature and fiercely protective of their remote wilderness habitat. Although a gentle, loving and compassionate people, their society is anything but easy.
Volpe
Volpe are descended from foxes. Their anatomy included pointed ears; a narrow, bewhiskered snout; a furry body; a bipedal stance; and a bushy tail. As unrepentant hagglers Volpe make natural traders, especially of non-sentient beasts, which they tame and breed. They are well-known for their propensity to bargain and dicker over transactions.

Creating a Lupinoid character

Step 1: Attributes
Roll attributes as normal but then add +2 to CON. Mana = INT + WIS x3. Mana is recovered at a rate of 10 per hour if remain active (but not using magic) and 20 per hour if asleep. Mana can however be permanently traded for HPs at a rate of 1 for 1. Hit points = CON +12, +12 per level.
Step 2: Skills

Choose skills in the normal manner according to the character's class.

Step 3: Abilities

Lupinoids gain all the following free;

Lupinoid Body - All Lupinoid can hear, see and smell x2 further than any other humanoid race. They can identify the specific odour or scent of anyone that have previously met, and track by smell so long as they know the scent.

Additionally Lupinoids start with 35 Points to spend on any of the following abilities. As they earns more experience they may buy or rebuy more abilities.

Ability Cost Notes
Canine Empathy 5 Lupinoids can establish telepathic communication with any normal or giant canine animal within line of sight if he does nothing else in the round. The animal must have a minimum INT of 1. This has the following benefits:
He can communicate to the creature that he desires its friendship. If the offer is sincere (and the animal will be able to sense if it isn't), the creature can be calmed and will not attack or flee unless it is attacked. It will answer any of his questions.

Further he can then recruit this animal as an ally. Once he does so he permanently psionically links with the animal turning it into a familiar. At any point he may see through the familiar's eyes, smell through its nose, hear with its ears, taste with its mouth or link with any of its other senses (including supernatural ones). The two are always in constant telepathic contact.

Enhanced Taste 5 Can identify the specific ingredients of anything that have previously eaten, drunk or sample tasted. This includes chemicals, animals, plants, toxins and poisons.
Increased Thac0 5 +1 Thac0 with melee weapons at levels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
Intimidating 10 This character has greater presence, +1 CHA
Natural Chameleon 5 Using this ability the Lupinoid can blend into and render himself nearly invisible in wooded areas, fields of tall grass, clumps of bushes, or any other wilderness area with dark or shaded terrain. When hiding he can conceal himself from attackers and eavesdrop on his enemies. He can hide near a well travelled road and secretly observe passersby, or conceal himself near an enemy campsite waiting for an opportune moment to steal their supplies.

He may also move with a minimum of sound, almost as if he's walking on air. Even creatures with the sharpest ears are no more likely to detect his presence than they are to hear a feather drop. The ability works equally well in icy mountains, heavily wooded forests, or any other type of wilderness terrain. This goes well beyond the stealth skill raising it to a supernatural level and preventing any non magical detection.

Natural Mana 10 +10 Mana at levels 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.
Nightvision 5 Not all canines have this ability. They can see up to 30 metres.
Reduced Sleep 10 The character needs one hour less normal sleep per 5 CON.
True Sight 10 The character can see the true image of any person or object regardless of any form of concealment, disguise, illusion or invisibility. This also includes the ability to detect whether it is magical, and whether it is harmful or helpful.
Will 5 This ability gives the character +1 per 5 WIS to save vs any Possession, Mind Control, Paralysis, Sleep and Charm based attacks.
Step 4: Classes
Any but Shaman is the favoured mage class.
