The Zodiac group is a criminal organization founded and funded by member Ryan Asanon (who adopts the identity of Taurus). The group's identity is based on the zodiac from the discipline astrology, with each member adopting the persona of a sign of the zodiac, being twelve in all (although the Gemini is twins, so that brings it up to thirteen). The group members share leadership of the organization, with the position rotating just as the astrological zodiac changes. When not united as a group, the members of Zodiac are all based in different cities throughout the United States. Dedicated to economic domination of the world, the group uses any means to accomplish this, including subversion; extortion and mass murder.

When each member is leader they carry a sentient extradimensional artifact called the Zodiac Key. The Zodiac Key is a powerful mystical object from the Battleverse and created by the inhabitants of that dimension. The Battleverse dimension is said to thrive on conflict, especially conflict between the forces of good and evil, in which neither side entirely and permanently defeats the other. The Zodiac Key was designed to perpetuate this conflict and was sent to Earth, where the battle between good and evil is more intense than in their own world. The Key first appeared to Libra, drawn to her by her great potential for doing evil, motivated by her intense hatred of society and the government.
The Zodiac Key is made of an unknown material. The holder may control vast psionic forces, enabling him or her to teleport and fire energy blasts. The key can also be used as an infinite energy source for machines. The key is capable of complicated matter manipulation and can rejuvenate the wielder as well, keeping them in peak human condition. The key is also  capable of independent thought, and will sometimes resist it's user's commands. It once restored Aries's body after he was grievously wounded without being commanded to do so. The Key get its power from an extradimensional source and is fuelled by the constant struggle between good and evil, being most powerful when the forces are equally balanced.
